Let’s get into a little bit of sports betting for the opening week of College Football. We’ve already seen some good games played and a few blowouts. Unfortunately, I didn’t feel like posting any plays by then. Let’s take a look at some of the games I like with a small note about each one. If you don’t have a legal place to make your bets, I recommend 5Dimes because they’re the best. Here’s proof.
Michigan -5
It might feel a bit like a trap considering 10% of Florida’s team has been suspended and the line only moved from 3.5 to 5. I’m not worried about mind games here. There is something to be said about team chemistry and with Florida’s players turning each other in I see an unsettled locker room. Harbaugh will have his defense ready while Florida cycles through all three quarterbacks and never gets into a rhythm. Michigan wins by a TD vs a UF team that hasn’t hasn’t played out of the state of Florida in 300 years.
North Carolina -12.5
Larry Fedora has slowly been building the Tarheels into a high quality opponent. California’s Head Coach, Justin Wilcox is in his first season of his first ever Head Coaching gig. I expect a few growing pains on Offense from the former Defensive Coordinator turned Head Coach. Needless to say, I do not expect the same from Fedora’s Tarheel Offense. Replacing Mitch Tribusky may be a cause for a slow start. I’m thinking Fedora will have a QB ready.
Georgia Southern +35
Auburn gets caught looking ahead to a big showdown against Clemson next week. Georgia Southern shouldn’t come close to an upset, but I think they cover easily. Last year they lost to Georgia Tech by 11 and Ole Miss by 10, so they won’t be afraid of Auburn. I’m not sold on Auburn’s rank either.
Vanderbilt/Middle Tennessee U 60
It’s hard to imagine a game that a Derek (Radio) Mason’s Vanderbilt team is favored in a game with a total of 60. Those two just do not go together. Simply put, Vandy doesn’t win in shootouts unless Butch Jones is the other coach. This is a Middle Tennessee showdown and I expect it to be a Vanderbilt type of game. Boring. The under is a safe bet here.
Florida State +7.5
Not taking anything away from what Alabama has assembled in the talent department, but Jimbo Fisher has recruited just as well. They have too much talent to be a touchdown underdog to anyone. They have a really good returning quarterback too in Deondre Francois. Alabama is returning Jalen Hurts but he has a brand new OC. It’s not easy for a QB to have two different Coordinators his first two seasons in major college football. If FSU can keep Francois just a little bit clean, this should be an easy cover.
Tennessee Volunteers -3
Tennessee has well known question marks at key positions but it’s a little known secret that Georgia Tech does too. Tennessee has had all off season to prepare for the Georgia Tech gimmicky HS offense. Traditionally, GT gives opponents fits with their triple offense. But when schools have time to prepare for it they’ve done well. Georgia Tech has only opened with a Division I (FBS) opponent twice in Paul Johnson’s tenure. They scored 17 points in each game. I look for Tennessee to win by 10.
